Hawa Mahal (means palace of winds) is one of the famous ancient monuments of Rajasthan. Mahal located in Jaipur, Rajasthan. built in 1799 by Maharaja Pratap Singh. Mahal designed by the Lal Chand made up of red and pink sandstone.
This Mahal is a pyramidal shaped monument, which is located in the heart of Jaipur business centre. it is an extraordinary pink-painted delicately honeycombed hive. that raises a dizzying five storeys of total 953 windows.
The summit of the building offers you the Jantar Mantar and city palace in one direction, Deori bazar in another direction.
The Building was specially constructed for the royal ladies of Jaipur. The purpose of this building is Rajput royal women is not supposed to appear in front of strangers. This Mahal was designed in such a way to allow the royal ladies to see whats happening outside. The Rajput ladies can see all royal procession occurring on the streets without being seen.
Hawa Mahal is designed in the shape of Lord Krishna crown. It is the tallest building in the world without a basement. Mahal has 5 storeys but it still standing upright. just because it is curved and landing at an angle of 87 degrees. This mahal exposes a unique combination of Mughal and Rajput architectural styles.
The latticework of the jaali work in the Mahal is similar to the honeycomb of a beehive. unlike conventional buildings, there is no front entrance have to enter from the rear side. it has only ramps to reach the upper stair of the building.
There is a small museum open from Saturday to Thursday. Museum with the miniature painting and rich relics. which helps to recall the royal past.
