Rushikonda beach is located 8kms from Visakhapatnam on the coast of Bay of Bengal. The beach is famous for watersport lovers and is popular among windsurfers and jet skiers. The city celebrates the festivals of colors, holy by transforming the beach to a hue of vibrant colors with people blotching color and water on each other.
Bheemili beach is located at the origin of Gosthani river, 24 km away from Visakhapatnam. It drags our attention to 17th -century fort and cemetery, revealing history dating back to the Dutch era. Bheemili has got placed in Hindu mythological story due to its Historical Treasure.
The greenery of palm groves make this place so peace and eye soothing. Its temperature varies in between 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. This beach is safe for swimmers in comparison to the others beaches in Vizag.
Yarada beach is situated at a distance of 15 kilometers from Visakhapatnam. It is on the west coast of Bay of Bengal and Gangavaram beach, Dolphin’s Nose is the places near to Yarada beach.
The beach is surrounded by hills from the three sides and Bay of Bengal on the fourth side. It is a Less crowded beautiful beach with pleasant greenery. This beach is best suited for the travelers and is most famous for its multicolor crabs.
Lawson’s Bay beach is also called as Pedawaltair Beach. This beach is located little ahead of the RK beach on the way to Kailasagiri hill. The beach attracts the tourists due to its stunning scenic beauty.Gangavaram beach
Gangavaram beach is located nearer to the steel plant in Visakhapatnam. There are several water sports for adventure lovers at the beach. Gangavaram is one of the most tourist attractive places in Visakhapatnam.
Kothapally waterfalls are near Paderu in Visakhapatnam. Kothapally waterfalls are surrounded by Paderu Mandal to the east, Venus Bayalu Mandal to the North, Chintapalle Mandal to the South and Madugula Mandal to the west.
Valasampeta waterfalls are located at 32km away from Narsipatnam. The name of waterfalls is derived from the nearby village name. Near to waterfalls, there is a temple of Lord Shiva which is located on the top of the hill.
Katiki waterfalls, originates at River Gosthani is located in Visakhapatnam district. Waterfalls are about 50ft high and lie around 4km away from Borra caves.
The most Mouth watering item over there to eat is Bamboo Chicken which is nothing but Chicken kabab but prepared by using Bamboo sticks and cooking is done by keeping them inside Bamboo tree trunks.
Chaparai waterfalls is a picnic spot which is 15kms away from Araku valley. It is a scenic place with waterfalls and forest area surrounding it.
Tadimada waterfalls are also known as Ananthagiri waterfalls which are located at a distance of 30km from Araku with a height of about 100ft. Tadimada is one of the top tourist attractions in Araku. Adventure camps, Boating, Campaign, Eco tours, Hiking, Mountaineering are several activities at Tadimada waterfalls.
Vuda park is located near Ramakrishna mission beach, Visakhapatnam. Park is opened from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Horse riding is also available in the park. The park also has skating ring for kids. Red roast, Ambica sea green are most famous restaurants near Vuda park.
Mudasarlova park spreads an area of 20 acres. The water reservoir in the park holds its obligation to supply drinking water to the city. Apart from being picnic spot, the park also possesses Golf course club in its premises.
Tenneti park is also known as Vuda Tenneti park which is located on the Beach road of Jodugullapalem (22kms away from the city) and beside the sea shore of Bay of Bengal, Visakhapatnam. It is the first children’s park in the city. There is a huge LED screen of about 22ft by 16ft screen, where tourists can watch cricket matches and movies.
Early mornings and evenings are the best time to visit the park in order to see sunrise and sunsets. The park is opened from 6 AM to 9 PM every day.
Shivaji Park is one of the most famous attractions of Visakhapatnam which spreads over 16 acres of land and is surrounded by MVP colony and Shivajipalem. It has a beautiful view of hills and beach.
Kailasagiri park is one of the most beautiful tourist attraction place in Visakhapatnam which is at a height of 360 feet. The huge idols of Lord Shiva and Parvathi are placed over there at an elevation 40ft which gives a religious flavour. Kailasagiri includes many things in it like providing adventure games like paragliding, kids play area, religious importance and wide view of whole city. There is also a rope way facility for the tourists.
Borra Caves, also called Borra Guhalu which are located in Ananthagiri hills of Araku valley. The name “Borra” is derived from Odia Language which means hole.
The Belum caves are the largest cave system which consists of Black Limestone. Centuries ago, Belum caves are occupied by Jains and Buddhists monks. These caves have several main sections called Pillidwaram, Kotilingalu chamber, Patalaganga, Saptaswaralu Guha (musical chamber), Dhyan mandIr (meditation chamber), Thousand hoods, Banyan tree hall, and Mandapam.
Araku valley is hill station in Visakhapatnam. It is also known as “Ooty of Andhra”. It is surrounded by the thick forests of the Eastern Ghats Mountain range and is located in Eastern ghats about is 114 km away from Visakhapatnam which spreads over 36kms.
Tyda nature camp
Tyda is a small tribal village in the wooded hills of the Eastern Ghats which is 40 km away from Araku and 70 km away from Vizag. This is also known as Jungle Bells. This nature camp includes Rock climbing, trekking, bird watching and target shooting with bows and arrows.
This eco-tourism is home for a variety of animals and birds. There are huts and tents set in a tribal environment for tourists.
Bojjankonda and Lingalakonda are two Buddhist rock-cut caves situated near the village called Sankaram, which is few kilometers away from Visakhapatnam.
The two hills, one is Bojjanakonda (east face) which is covered with a large number of monolithic stupas and the other is Lingalakonda (west face) which is covered with the large number of rock-cut small stupas are surrounded by paddy fields.
Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary
Kambalakonda is a forest near Visakhapatnam. It was named after the local hillock kambalakonda. The forest is dense with trees and variety species of birds and animals can be seen there.
Kambalakonda is one of the famous attractions of Visakhapatnam. They have collaborated with Andhra Pradesh tourism and forest department to come up with a package of eco-friendly adventure sports activities at the kambalakonda wild life sanctuary.
Kondakarla bird sanctuary is also known as Kondakarla Ava beach, are a famous lake and home to many species of birds.
The main attraction of Kondakarla Ava is the boat rides in the natively prepared small boats made by the villagers and local fishermen. The best time to visit Kondakarla bird sanctuary is during the winter season (October to December).
Matsyadarshini is an excellent aquarium and houses a plenty number of species including stone fish, red squirrel angel, long horn bovine fish, butterfly angles, trigger fish, attendants, sweet lip rabbit angel, jokester angel, roosty shadowy, electric beam, porcupine angel and some more.
Indhira Gandhi Zoological park is the third largest zoo in the country. The park is named after Indhira Gandhi the former Prime minister of India. It spreads over 625 acres of land and is surrounded by Eastern ghats on three sides and Bay of Bengal on the fourth side.
It has two entrance and exit gates. One towards national highway 5 and the other towards beach road. There are nearly 80 variety species of birds and reptiles in the zoo.
Shilparamam Jathara is an arts and crafts village and so called sculptured park which is situated in Madhurawada, a few kilometres away from Visakhapatnam. It covers 28 acres of land in Madhurawada.
The main objective of Shilparamam is to expose traditional culture to common people. Shilparamam is located in beautiful natural conditions area sculptured with woodwork, jewellery, clothes and local crafts of each region of the country.
Ramanaidu film studios
Ramanaidu film studio, added a greatest attraction called “Museum of cinema” which is a visual treat for movie lovers. Walking into Ramanaidu film studios feels like entering multiple film sets at the same time.
This museum was inaugurated on the 79th birth anniversary of Ramanaidu. The equipment showcased in the museum, dates back to 1960’s when the color cinema had just entered the market.
The name Dolphin nose is originated from the hill itself which features like a nose of Dolphin. It is located in Visakhapatnam in between Yarada and Gangavaram port.
Dolphin’s nose is a natural wonder which can be clearly visible from all parts of the city. A light house that is situated on Dolphin’s nose was built in 1960’s.
Lambasingi- visakapatnam near places
Lambasingi is a small village in Vishakapatnam district. The temperatures in this place are -2 degrees in December-January. Lambasingi is also called as “Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh”. Many fruits like apple grow on this area due to its cold climate.
Rose hill is also referred as Mother Mary’s Church and is built in 1864. There were excellent views of ship building yard from here. There are three hillocks each with its own religious significance which are added to the glory and history of the vizag.
The shrine is a great manifestation of the Catholic life, a gesture proof of everybody’s love and devotion to Mary, the “Deva Matha” prayed by all Catholics, Hindus and Muslims.
Pavurallakonda or Pavurallabodu is a hill name, popularly known as Narasimhaswamy konda near Beemunipatnam.
Pavurallakonda gives the meaning of “The hill of pigeons”. In telugu Pavuralu means “pigeon” and konda means “hill”. But as per some studies conducted at this site it may be known as Pavurallakonda due to the availability of white stone on the hill (white stone is known as pavurallu).
The other name of Kurupam tomb is “Andhra Taj Mahal”. It was constructed 100 years back in the memory of Queen of Kurupam by Raja ravi varma. Kurupam tomb has intricate carvings on sandstone with Dravidian, Mughal, European and North Indian Culture and styles.
Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple (Simhachalam)
Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha swamy temple is a south Indian temple situated on Simhachalam hill. The temple is placed at a height of 800 meters and is a part of Eastern ghats which is named Kailasa. This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu who is worshipped there as varaha Narasimha. The idol of Lord Vishnu is covered with Sandalwood paste throughout the year except on Akshaya Tritiya, which resembles as a Shiva Lingam.
The architecture of the temple is a mixture styles of Orissan, Chalukyas and the Cholas. There are two temple tanks within the temple surroundings known Swami pushkarini and Gangadhara.
The festivals celebrated in Simhachalam have an influence of Dravida sampradaya, which is followed in Tamil nadu. Kalyanotsava and Chandanotsava are the two major festivals celebrated in temple, followed by Narasimha Jayanti, Navaratrotsava and Kamadahana. In terms of income earned temple, Simhachalam is the second largest temple after Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh.
Kotilingeswara temple is located in the village of kammasandra in kolar district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and this temple has one of the largest lingams in the world.
The main attraction of the temple is a huge linga of 108 ft tall and idol of Nandi at 35 ft tall surrounding by lakhs of small lingas spreading over an area of 15 acres. A water tank is set up near to the linga, used by devotees to perform Abhisheka.
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. It is located near RK beach which is 4 kms away from Vizag. The temple is famous for its architecture outlining tall pillars, arches and minarets.
Adjacent to Kali temple there is another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The uniqueness of the temple is its “Rasalinga” which is made of 10 kgs single stone.
Kanaka mahalakshmi temple
The temple is located in Burujupeta of Visakhapatnam. Sri kanaka mahalakshmi Ammavaru was taken out of the well and was installed on the road, later it was moved to the corner of the road for road widening purpose. The strong belief of devotees is- kanaka mahalakshmi ammavaru is the “MOTHER OF TRUTH”.
The noteworthy aspect of the temple is having no roof, as per saying kanaka mahalakshmi ammavaru wanted not to have temple and wished to remain without any roof on her idol. Hence this temple is having an unique feature of not having any roof and is open to sky.
Every day the Panchamrutha Abhishekam is being performed to the goddess thrice by the devotees. Panchamrutha Abhishekam, Ksheerabhishekam, Samuhika Ashtotthara Kunkumarchana, Keshakandan, Saree rusum are sevas which are performed daily and other auspicious days. The temple is opened for 24 hours.
Naval museum is also called Swarna Jyoti Museum which was established in 1989 in Visakhapatnam. This museum exhibits weapons which are used by Indian Navy in previous wars.
The museum has five sections- Maritime History, Naval Archives, Aquaria, Ocean resources and Eastern Seaboard establishments and ports. Naval museum is opened on all days from 9 am to 6 pm.
Kurusura (Submarine) museum
Submarine museum is situated on RK beach which is 6 kms away from the Vizag railway station. It is a Russian built submarine of the Indian Navy, turned to museum in 2001. Kurusura museum is one of the prime attractions of Visakhapatnam.
The main objective of the submarine is to create awareness among the public to know how the submarines work during war time. The tourism department of submarine looks after the maintenance of Kurusura submarine museum.
The museum is opened on 2 PM to 9 PM from Tuesday to Saturday and 10 – 12 PM and 2 – 9PM on Sundays. It is closed on Mondays. Guides are available in Museum to help the visitors.
Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Museum called Visakha museum is located in the port city of Visakhapatnam. This museum exposes collections which includes ancient armoury, crockery, coins, silk costumes, stuffed animals, jewellery, portraits, letters, diaries, periodicals and maps. Lot many models of planes and submarines can be found in Visakha Museum.
The museum will be opened on Monday to Thursday at 11 AM to 7 PM, Saturday and Sunday at 12 PM to 8 PM. Friday is holiday.
Anthropology museum was established in 1961. The department of Anthropology in the Andhra university has its own specialized Anthropology museum.
